Studio

The studio features ten pottery wheels, two kilns, and several large work tables that provide ample space for handbuilding and other projects. We offer a range of cone 6 glazes. Class fees include clay, glazes, and firing. Members are expected to purchase clay through the studio, we offer Laguna 65 and 66 (white stoneware) and Laguna 80 and 90 (brown/red stoneware) Firing fees are $0.02 per cubic inch for glaze firing.

A shared common room is available for all studio participants, equipped with a fridge, microwave, table, and chairs — a comfortable clay free space to take a break, have a snack, or chat with fellow potters.

Environmental Practice:

Tail in the Mud is committed to minimizing its environmental impact. We practice water-efficient cleaning methods for both clay and glaze. Typically, tools and materials are first rinsed in tubs before a final rinse in the sink equipped with a clay trap. The tubs are cleaned regularly to remove sediment and hazardous waste is disposed of properly.

To reduce waste, we provide reusable towels for general use (please limit to one per person per day). Used towels can be placed in the laundry basket or taken home to wash. The studio also uses stainless steel containers whenever possible instead of plastic. Our glaze buckets are recycled drywall compound containers, and most of our table legs are made from salvaged lumber. We encourage everyone to join us in maintaining these sustainable practices and helping reduce our collective environmental footprint.
